Is Drumming Just For Boys…….

Hey, Im Brendan Jones from H91 Drum School in Galway City, providing both online and private one to one drum coaching. Ive been teaching for the last 13 years all different age groups, older adults, young adults, teenagers and Kids. Everyone gets the same drum lesson, its the delivery of the lesson thats different depending on their skill level and age.

Still to this day when people ask me about the students that attend H91 Drum School they’re surprised to find out that the ratio of boys and girls is 50/50. This is not something new, ever since i started teaching in 2011-2012 there was always talented and enthusiastic girls enquiring about drumming. However, every now and then, I will still get an enquiry from a budding young female drummer (or parents of) asking “Are there many girls drumming?” or “ do you teach Girls?” and the answer is YES, any person can learn to play the drums in H91 Drum School.

Here is one of the star students in H91 Drum School, Kate Murphy. She began taking Online lessons in 2020 and is still attending weekly online drum classes. I had the pleasure of meeting her for the first time in person at this years Galway Drum Show. She has improved so much and it’s all down to her focus, practice and love for playing, this is what make all the difference and I think you can see that in the Video. The song she is preforming is The Double Bubble Duchess, a theatre song from Trinity College London Drumming Grades.
