What’s the best drum kit for my kid?

Hey, Brendan Jones here from H91 Drum School in Galway City, this blog is for all the parents buying their child a drum kit. Usually when mom or dad hear their child wants a drum kit the request is met with resistance, parents thinking they will never have a moment’s peace and quiet again. But it really doesn’t have to be a very loud space taking Instrument, that will cause havoc in the house.

A few things to remember are that there are different drum kits for different ages and also if noise is an issue there are a few silent options for you to have a look at. If the child is 6-11 years then you need to get a junior kit. Then from 11- adults they are ok to have a full sized drum kit. Now if noise is an issue you can always buy an electric drum kit or a practice drum kit.

So what drum kit should should i buy for my child? Well below is a video that will give you all the information you need as well as links to the Junior drum kits I recommend, and the electric drum kit i think is most suited for a first time drummer.

UK Junior Kit

UK Alesis Kit

Volume Issue

Yes drum kits can be very loud instruments but there are a few thing you can do the make the drum kit virtually silent. So in the above video we talked about Junior and electric drum kits, in the the video below, it shows how to make a drum kit silent with the use of Mesh drum Heads and Low volume cymbals. See the video for more information it just my save your ears.

I hope this help you in making a decision on the first drum kit to buy you child or teenager. The benefits to playing drums are endless and it’s so much fun, there’s no reason why you can have your child be drummer and still have a quiet house hold….. that is…… until they become a rock star.

I hope this helped, please let me know if it did and if you have any question get in contact with me.

Brendan .
