Rocking Out with American Idiot: My Drumming Experience at The Black Box Theatre

First off, let's talk about the sheer excitement of bringing Billie Joe Armstrong's vision to life on stage. American Idiot isn't just a musical – it's a raw, gritty explosion of rebellious spirit and social commentary, perfectly encapsulated in Green Day's powerhouse tracks. From the anthemic title track to the epic saga of "Jesus of Suburbia," every beat pulsated with intensity, driving the narrative forward and igniting the audience's passion.

Playing drums for this production was an absolute blast. As the backbone of the band, I thrived on the high-octane energy of songs like "American Idiot" and "Your Favorite Son," laying down thunderous rhythms that propelled the action on stage. Collaborating with the talented cast and crew of GUMS (Galway University Musical Society) was a dream come true, as we worked together to create a visceral musical experience that left audiences buzzing with excitement.

Jesus Of Suburbia: The most challenging drum performance. This 10 minute anthem incorperates four different parts working with straight and swung feel with 4/4, 2/4 and 6/4 timing.

Each night brought new challenges and triumphs, as we poured our hearts and souls into every drum fill and cymbal crash, leaving it all on stage for the love of the art form.
